Tickets to golf’s mecca have been sold out for over 30 years. Tickets, or badges as they are known at Augusta were basically only available for club members and invited guests. Today, the only way badge ownership is being transferred is by having the badge passed down through the family, generation to generation. To have been to Augusta to see The Masters is something special for any golfer, to play Augusta; even more special. Here are the top 5 ways to get masters tickets.
1. Have a family member or personal friend that is a member of Augusta. So how many of you are brothers of a member? I guarantee not many us. Tickets are often passed down from generation to generation and are exclusively left in the family. For 99% of us, this is not an option.
2. Patiently wait on Washington Road, at the main gate and buy a tickets off a scalper. This practice is highly illegal and most scalpers wouldn’t dare try and sell tickets under the nose of the club and its legion of security guards. The penalty for the ticket owner who is caught? The badge will terminated for life. Probably too much to risk for most people.
3. Buy tickets off ebay or another auction site. Just like an auction for a house, you can get caught in a bidding war for these tickets. You will often pay well more than market price for the ticket. Often the badges are only for single practice days only. You are left to organise everything else yourself. The gates to the practice rounds open well after the players have hit the course. This makes it hard to watch someone like Tiger Woods who hits the course at 1st light, often for only 9 holes. Not the best option for masters tickets
4. Attend the event as part of a hosted tour. Before booking a tour I must warn you that tickets can be very costly despite only going to 2 tournament days. A practice day and 2 tournament days. This may vary between ticket providers. The ticket, travel, accomodation, transfers and meals in a package can reach $10,000 US.
5. Purchase a ticket through an authorized ticket outlet that privately rents the tickets off the club. The great thing about renting tickets off the club, is that it is much cheaper than purchasing the badge outright. This is a very affordable way of attending the event and tickets can be purchased as single day and multi day badges. Including the weekend ticket. So you get to watch the famous back 9 on Sunday. Imagine, you watching the leaders play Amen Corner, watching the leader talk the greatest walk in golf; the victorious walk up the 18th fairway.
